Beginning Thursday, July 10, 2014, the Weber Center for the Performing Arts will present “Some Enchanted Evening,” a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical revue, outdoors on the Cleary Terrace at 428 Front Street South in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The musical revue will feature some of the best local talent in La Crosse’s newest summer professional theatre. Karla Hughes has performed in operas, musicals and as a soloist around the country, including the Lincoln Center, Michigan Opera Theater and Chamber Theatre in Milwaukee. Karla currently teaches voice at Viterbo University. Gary Moss is a vocal teacher at Luther College and has performed with La Musical Lirica in Italy, Northern Light Opera and Skylark Opera, to name a few of his many appearances. Jana Schreier, currently residing in Chicago and an alumna from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, has worked on Celebrity Cruise Lines, Broadway Dinner Theatre, and Circa ’21. Lauren Kolas, currently a student at Viterbo University, has been identified as an up-and-coming talent that will surprise and delight audiences. Rounding out the cast of five is Eric Leitzen, a La Crosse Community Theatre favorite who was last onstage in Macbeth and whose other credits include Blood Brothers and The Pirates of Penzance. The songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II have become integral to lives. We sing them in the shower, we dance to them in ballrooms, we hear them on the radio and in clubs and, yes, in elevators and supermarkets, too. We still thrill to them on the live stage in their respective shows, and we teach them to our children. This stunning collection of compositions provides the five performers with an opportunity to explore the songs within their own styles and sensibilities, and it offers the audience a glorious parade of genuine hits.
The revue concept is by Jeffrey B. Moss, for Jerry Kravat Entertainment Services, Inc., and is presented by Bridge View Entertainment, La Crosse’s Professional Summer Theatre.
Performances will be July 10-12, 17-19 and 24-26 at 7:30 p.m., on the Cleary Terrace (weather permitting). A special matinee July 20 (2:00 p.m.) will be in the Veterans Studio Theatre.
