Private Soldiers: A Year in Iraq with a Wisconsin National Guard Unit

Former Wisconsin Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Joseph Streeter details the story of the 2-127th C Company’s deployment to Iraq, through the stories and photos he and others shared in the Society Press book “Private Soldiers.” SSG Streeter was a squad leader in the company when it deployed in 2005, providing armed convoy escort and route security throughout all of Iraq, from Umm Qasr in the south to Mosul in the far north. A book signing will follow.
Documentaries Showcase Wisconsin Veteran Stories
Special screenings showcasing a series of war- and veteran-history related documentaries produced in partnership with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, Wisconsin Public Television and Wisconsin Historical Society Press—will be shown in the Lyche Theatre of the Weber Performing Arts Center throughout Veteran’s Day at the following times. The screenings are free and open to the public.

Medal of Honor recipient Red Cloud’s daughter will introduce documentary, with a Ho-Chunk DRUM Circle with song written just about Red Cloud

Introduced by representative from Veterans Museum, recognizing anyone who served aboard. Run time 30 minutes.
Salute to Wisconsin Veteran History
7:30 PM Salute to Wisconsin Veteran History, featuring 1st Brigade Band Concert of Civil War Music. (Doors open at 7:00 PM)
Dr. Ellsworth H. Brown, The Ruth and Hartley Baker Director of the Wisconsin Historical Society, hosts a special evening welcoming keynote speaker John A. Scocos, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, who will highlight the history of the millions of Wisconsinites who have served in America’s Armed Forces.
Authentic Civil War music played on antique Civil War-era instruments by Wisconsin’s 1st Brigade Band re-enactor musicians will cap the evening’s tribute.
History will come alive during the one-hour concert that features Union and Confederate pieces played from original Civil War sheet music and that incorporates readings from soldiers’ letters from the Wisconsin Historical Society’s vast Civil War collection.
