SUMMARY:Mid West Music Fest Presents: Songs for Sippin'. A Fundraiser and Tasting Featuring Dom Flemons and The Cactus Blossoms
DESCRIPTION:  \nhttps://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Steel-Pony-Blues-by-Dom-Flemons-Official-Music-Video.mp4\n  \nhttps://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/The-Cactus-Blossoms-1.mp4\n\nGrammy Winner Dom Flemons of Carolina Chocolate Drops to play Mid West Music Fest Tasting & Fundraiser March 7th\, with special guests Minneapolis countrified duo The Cactus Blossoms. Attendees will also receive a tasting glass and be able to sample regional craft beer\, wine\, and hard cider. \nAs a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops\, Dom Flemons spent nine years traveling the world singing\, playing and telling the stories behind indigenous American music\, the tunes that originated out of soldiers\, slaves\, hillbillies\, hellions and all the other historical contributors to traditional folk music and its many-headed offspring. The Chocolate Drops won a Grammy for their 2010 album Genuine Negro Jig\, and became one of the top folk-festival attractions in the country. \nIn 2014\, Flemons left the Chocolate Drops and has since continued his world travels as a music scholar\, historian\, record collector\, and a multi-instrumentalist. He is considered an expert player on the Banjo\, Fife\, Guitar\, Harmonica\, Jug\, Percussion\, Quills\, and Rhythm Bones. Flemons is known as “The American Songster” since his repertoire of music covers over 100 years of American folklore\, ballads\, and tunes. \nAt the March 7th event\, he will be playing songs from his album “Black Cowboys”\, which has garnered numerous awards. The songs shed light on the music\, culture\, and complex history of the golden era of the Wild West. \nPage Burkum and Jack Torrey a.k.a. The Cactus Blossoms are brothers\, but their vocal talents aren’t simply a case of sibling harmonies. They didn’t start singing together until their 30s. For a band inspired by the melodies of years past\, pondering the plagues of the present day is an appropriate pastime\, and it’s also a concept that surfaces more than once on their self-produced LP Easy Way. Assembled from songs composed on the road and on breaks from touring with Kacey Musgraves\, Nick Lowe and Lucius. \nBurkum and Torrey can sing\, but they can play and write beautiful songs\, too. It’s caught the attention of David Lynch\, who invited the gents to play the fictional bar\, The Roadhouse\, in the last season of Twin Peaks. They have also been written up in Rolling Stone\, Vice and NOISEY\, and their latest album Easy Way includes two co-writes with super fan Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys who reached out to the brothers about doing some songwriting together. \nSponsored by The Weber Group\nPerformance located in the Lyche Theatre at Weber Center for the Performing Arts\nDate\nSaturday\, March 7\, 2020 \nTime\nTasting – begins 5:30 pm \nThe Cactus Blossoms – 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm \nDom Flemons – 9 pm \nPricing\nVIP Seating $35 (LIMIT 160) \nRegular Reserved $30 \nAll tickets include: craft beer\, wine\, cider\, non-alcoholic beverages\, and custom tasting glass \nGet Your Tickets Now »
