SUMMARY:LIVE in Cinemas - Margaret Atwood
DESCRIPTION:https://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Margaret_Atwood_Live_Trailer_44s_h264_1080p25.mp4\n  \nMargaret Atwood: Live in Cinemas will be broadcast to over 1\,000 cinemas across the globe\, including cinemas throughout the US\, UK and Canada\, with delayed screenings planned in Australia and New Zealand.  Filmed live from the National Theatre in London\, BBC journalist and New York Times best-selling author Samira Ahmed will interview Atwood about her remarkable career\, her diverse range of works and why she has returned to her handmaid story\, 34 years later. \nThe publication of Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale in 1985 and the current\, Emmy Award-winning television series have created a cultural phenomenon\, as handmaids have become a symbol of women’s rights and a protest of misogyny and oppression. In this brilliant sequel\, acclaimed author Margaret Atwood answers the questions that have tantalized readers for decades. When the van door slammed on Offred’s future at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale\, readers had no way of telling what lay ahead.  Margaret Atwood’s sequel The Testaments picks up the story fifteen years after Offred stepped into the unknown\, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead. \nPresented by the Weber Center for the Performing Arts\, Fane Productions\, By Experience\, and Equality Now  \nShowing in the Lyche Theatre \nDate\nSunday\, September 15\, 2019 at 6:00 pm \nPricing\n$15 Reserved Seating \n Get Your Tickets Now »

SUMMARY:Great Art on Screen - Caravaggio: The Soul and the Blood
DESCRIPTION:https://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Caravaggio_TRL_EN_WEB_DEF.mp4\n  \nAfter groundbreaking success in terms of audiences and critics of “The Vatican Museums” and “Florence and the Uffizi Gallery”\, and after the release of “Raphael – The Lord of the Arts”\, here it comes a new documentary dedicated to an Italian Master: CARAVAGGIO – THE SOUL AND THE BLOOD \nA journey through life\, works and struggles of Michelangelo Merisi from Caravaggio. His existence\, no less than his art\, is characterized by lights and shadows\, contrasts and contradictions\, genius and sobriety. Revolutionary artist\, he was often not so beloved by contemporaries. He travelled Italy in search of luck or perhaps in search of himself\, escaping the enemies that he always found at his passage. Milan\, Venice\, Rome\, Naples\, Malta\, Sicily. His death seems a twist of faith: he died in Porto Ercole\, one step away from Rome\, one step away from salvation. \nAccording to the Longhi’s lesson (the main Caravaggio expert)\, his work will be read with strict reference to his existence\, finding in his masterpieces the echo of personal experiences. \nThe narrative unfolds on two levels: \n\nThe artistic digression\, in which the commentary of the main artworks will be entrusted to an illustrious art historian from the first paintings:Bacchus; Boy with a Basket of Fruit. Through the roman period artworks: Cardsharps\, Saint Catherine;  Judith Beheading Holofernes to the last works as David with the Head of Goliath.\n“Photographic” scenes that\, accompanied by the voice of Caravaggio himself\, evokes an object or a situation symbolizing his life and his works. A basket of fruit\, a musical instrument\, a sword\, a grate of a cell etc. These emotional and evocative moments – thanks to the use of light and cinematic techniques such timelapse and slowmotion – help the viewer to go deep inside the mind and soul of Caravaggio\, empathizing with his impulses and fears.\n\nProduced by SKY\, Nexo Digital and Magnitudo Film \nPresented by the Weber Center for the Performing Arts \nPerformance located in the Lyche Theatre \nDate\n6:30 pm Sunday\, May 19\, 2019 \nPricing\n$15 Adults \n$10 Student \n Get Your Tickets Now » \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:National Theatre LIVE - King Lear
DESCRIPTION:https://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/NTL-2018-King-Lear-30-second-square-trailer-1.mp4\nNational Theatre Live\nKing Lear\nBy William Shakespeare\n★★★★★ ‘Ian McKellen reigns supreme in this triumphant production.’ (Daily Telegraph) \n  \nBroadcast live from London’s West End\, see Ian McKellen’s ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear in cinemas. \n  \nChichester Festival Theatre’s production received five-star reviews for its sell-out run\, and transfers to the West End for a limited season.  Jonathan Munby directs this ‘nuanced and powerful’ (The Times) contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender\, violent\, moving and shocking play. \nConsidered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written\, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King\, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them.  Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery\, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends. \nPresented by the Weber Center for the Performing Arts  \nPerformance located in the Lyche Theatre \nDate\n6:30 PM Sunday\, May 12\, 2019 \nPricing\n$15 Adults \n$10 Student \n Get Your Tickets Now »

SUMMARY:Great Art on Screen - Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies
DESCRIPTION:https://www.webercenterarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/VAN_GOGH_TRAILER-1.mp4\n  \nA new look at Van Gogh\, through the legacy of the largest private collector of artworks by the Dutch painter: Helene Kröller-Müller (1869-1939)\, who\, in the early 20th Century\, ended up buying nearly 300 of his works\, paintings and drawings included.\nThe story unfolds of a woman who\, in Van Gogh’s spiritual torment could recognize her own\, showing priceless artistic treasures and the rare\, naturalistic and architectural beauty of the Kröller-Müller Museum set in the vast De Hoge Weluge park\, as well as visual extracts of the Milanese\, Florentine\, Roman and Palladian Renaissance. It tells the tormented\, existential parable of a painter\, seen through passages from his brother Theo’s letters\, which set the pace of the exhibition\, and it shows images of the places he lived and stayed in\, from Paris to Provence.\nThe opportunity to tell the story of this collection and of the burning passion for art that led to it\, is an outstanding exhibition on Van Gogh. ‘Amid wheat fields and clouded skies’ at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza\, brings together 40 paintings and 85 drawings from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo\, Holland\, now home to Helene’s heritage.\nThis is an exhibition that will not only tell us about Van Gogh’s art and his genius\, but it will also allow us to understand the importance of drawing as part of his artistic technique. His seemingly instinctive\, ‘au premier coup’ canvases were the result of long\, preparatory studies\, not sketches but complete works of art in themselves\, where the broken flow of lines that characterizes the style of his paintings\, can already be found. \nProduced by 3D Productions and Nexo Digital \nPresented by the Weber Center for the Performing Arts \nPerformance located in the Lyche Theatre \nDate\n5:00 pm Sunday\, April 7\, 2019 \nPricing\n$15 Adults \n$10 Student \n Get Your Tickets Now »

SUMMARY:Cruisin' Craft Beer and Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe all ages film festival features films produced by local\, national and international filmmakers featuring bicycles\, bicyclists\, and bicycling in interesting\, creative\, and surprising ways. \nBeginning at 6pm (21+) \, the craft beer tasting will feature over 20 craft beers. \nSchedule of events:\n\nFilm Schedule \n\n3:00 pm – 4:30 pm\n\n\n – Bike Trip (10 Minutes)\n\nDirector: Tom Schroeder \nTwo people bike 500 miles to ask a question at a brewery. \n\n– The Moment (75 Minutes)\n\nIn the backwoods of British Columbia\, Canada\, three small but dedicated crews of adventure seekers were quietly changing the course of a sport and carving their paths in history.  And it was all happening unbeknownst to each other\, the cycling world\, and ultimately\, themselves.  This film is the origin story of a small movement of mountain bikers and filmmakers who rose up\, challenged the status quo\, and turned the sport of cycling on its head. This is a story that has never been told\, told by the people who lived it firsthand. \n 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm \nDaniel De Vise’ \n\n\nAuthor: Daniel Devisé \nThe Comeback: Greg Lemond\, the True King of American Cycling\, and a Legendary Tour de France \nGreg LeMond is an American sporting hero whose story would surely be rejected by Hollywood as too fanciful. It includes taking on and beating the French at their own game\, a near fatal shooting\, a career in apparently terminal decline\, an extraordinary comeback\, and a bitter feud with his successor. Remarkably\, it’s all true\, and The Comeback is the first book to document the full LeMond story in all its astonishing\, scarcely credible detail.” — author Richard Moore \n\n7:30 pm\nBicycle Thieves (90 minutes) \nDirector:Vittorio De Sica \nUnemployed Antonio is elated when he finally finds work hanging posters around war-torn Rome. His wife\, Maria\, sells the family’s bed linens to retrieve Antonio’s bicycle from the pawnshop so he can take the job. However\, disaster strikes when Antonio’s bicycle is stolen\, and his new job is doomed unless he can find the thief. With the help of his lively son\, Bruno\, Antonio combs the city\, growing increasingly desperate for justice. \n\n\n\n\nSpeaking Schedule \n\n3:30 pm – 4:30 pm\n\nTBD\n\n7:00 pm – 8:00 pm\n\nTami Plourde\nAs Owner and Director of Sale and Marketing at Pearl Street Brewery\, Tami will address the current state of the beer industry and the role women play.\n\n\n\n\nBeer Tasting\n\n3:00 pm – 7:00 pm\n\nMusic by Isaac Dummer\n\n\nPresented by Cruisin’ Craft Beer and Film Festival\n\nPricing\n$50 \nTicket includes: beer tasting\, films\, and guest speakers \n Get Your Tickets Now »
