SUMMARY:Author's Talk with Matthew J. Hefti
DESCRIPTION:  \nMeet the author of A Hard and Heavy Thing. \nTop 10 First Novels of 2016–Booklist. \n2016 Great Group Reads Selection \n“Contemplating suicide after nearly a decade at war\, Levi sits down to write a note to his best friend Nick\, explaining why things have to come to this inevitable end. Years earlier\, Levi–a sergeant in the army–made a tragic choice that led his team into ambush\, leaving three soldiers dead and two badly injured. During the attack\, Levi risked death to save a badly burned and disfigured Nick. His actions won him the Silver Star for gallantry\, but nothing could alleviate the guilt he carried after that fateful day. He may have saved Nick in Iraq\, but when Levi returns home and spirals out of control\, it is Nick’s turn to play the savior\, urging Levi to write. Levi begins to type as a way of bidding farewell\, but what remains when he is finished is not a suicide note. It’s a love song\, a novel in which the beginning is the story’s end\, the story’s end is the real beginning of Levi’s life\, and the future is as mutable as words on a page.” \nMatthew J. Hefti was an explosive ordinance disposal technician deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq twice. \n[twocol_one] \nDate\nMonday\, November 7 at 7:00 p.m.\, Veterans Studio Theatre \n[/twocol_one][twocol_one_last] \nPricing\nFree but tickets requested \nClick here for tickets\n[/twocol_one_last]

SUMMARY:Live in Central Park [Revisited]: Simon & Garfunkel
DESCRIPTION:September 19\, 1981\n\nIn 1981\, more than 500\,000 music fans gathered in Central Park to witness the now legendary reunion of folk duo Simon & Garfunkel. Award-winning recording artists\, Lee Lessack and Johnny Rodgers recreate that magical night. With dulcet vocals harmonizing over lilting guitar\, you’ll hear all the beloved poetic masterpieces that made Simon & Garfunkel famous: “Mrs. Robinson\,” “Homeward Bound\,” “Scarborough Fair\,” “Bridge Over Troubled Waters\,” “The Sound of Silence\,” and many more. \nLEE LESSACK’s graceful lyric baritone vocals and sophisticated yet endearing persona have made him a shining star of the international concert scene. Billboard Magazine calls his singing\, “Cabaret romanticism of a high order.”  Touring extensively in the United States and Europe to sold-out performances and releasing five albums\, Lessack has proven himself both as performer and recording artist. \n\n\n\nJOHNNY RODGERS is an internationally-celebrated singer-songwriter\, pianist\, Broadway star\, and recording artist who is described by Stephen Holden\, from The New York Times\, as an entertainer “that can’t be found anywhere else” with “fused elements of Billy Joel\, Peter Allen and Johnny Mercer.” Johnny dazzles audiences with his enthusiastic mélange of Americana using his original songs like “Home To Mendocino”\, “One More Moment”\, and the tribute ballad “The Best Of You In Me” and favorites made popular by the likes of Ray Charles\, Sam Cooke\, Bill Withers\, and Elvis. Johnny won the Billboard and The Great American Song contests and the ASCAP Foundation Award for his songwriting. \nPresented by Weber Center for the Performing Arts.\n \n\n\n\n[twocol_one] \nDate\nSPECIAL DATE AND TIME!\nSeptember 12 at 7:00 p.m.\, Lyche Theatre \n[/twocol_one][twocol_one_last] \nPricing\nAll Tickets:  $25 \nGet Your Tickets Now » \n[/twocol_one_last]
